Manchester Parent Carer Forum works to represent the ‘voice’ of parents and carers of children and young people aged 0-25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). They are a group of volunteer parents and carers who endeavour to work in partnership with Manchester Local Authority, Education, Health, Social Care and other providers to make sure the services they plan and deliver meet the needs of Manchester families.

The group understand the day-to-day challenges faced by parent-carers, as they are parent-carers too. The forum aims to give parent-carers a voice and make their collective views heard in the improvement of services for children.

Their aims are:

  • be a united voice by providing a forum for views
  • work in partnership with those who provide services
  • enable children and young people with additional needs and/or disabilities  and their families in Manchester to lead full lives, through seeking to improve services, and by providing informal support
  • encourage and promote inclusive attitudes and practice
  • promote disability equality and challenge discrimination
  • gather information from parents and carers, and highlight common priorities
  • find out what support/services children and families need
  • provide examples of good practice
  • be supportive to all families
  • be accessible to all
  • speak for as many parents as possible

Membership is FREE and helps the group to keep in touch with parent-carers across the city.

In return they can send you updates and information about what’s happening in Manchester for disabled children, young people and their families. They can also let you know how you can join our steering group or become a parent carer representative for MPCF. Click here to see all the benefits of becoming a member or apply for full membership now.
